Best friends Dylan and Robby go to a race camp together, but they're assigned different partners to build stock cars. Dylan is secretly pleased at having an opportunity to beat Robby at something, but he has doubts when he discovers that his new partner is a girl.

When Shawn is offered the chance to be a junior team member on his idol's stock car team, he readily accepts. The day of the big race, however, Shawn discovers that he will actually be helping his idol's biggest competitor, "Mean" Gene Pederson. Though he is disappointed, Shawn quickly realizes that looks aren't everything.
